Revolutionizing Healthcare

The AI2MED project, a pioneering initiative at the intersection of AI and medicine, recently hosted an event that showcased the transformative potential of this synergy.

On May 7th, 2024, Algebra University hosted a thought-provoking event titled “Who Will Take Over – Doctors or Artificial Intelligence?”, bringing together over 30 attendees from the medical field, data science, academia, and the general public. The event delved into the transformative impact of AI on healthcare, exploring its potential to revolutionize diagnosis, treatment, and patient care.

Dr. Sc. Maja Brkljačić (Algebra University) kicked-off the event with the presentation that provided attendees with essential context, outlining the significance of the event, and framing the overarching theme of the intersection between healthcare and AI.

The event featured a keynote address by Prof. Dr. Sc. Dragan Primorac from the Special Hospital St Catherine, who provided an in-depth overview of the latest applications of AI in medicine. Prof. Primorac showcased how AI is already being used to enhance medical imaging, improve diagnostic accuracy, and personalize treatment plans.

The lively Q&A session provided a platform for attendees to voice their perspectives and concerns regarding the evolving landscape of healthcare in the age of AI. Participants expressed their enthusiasm about the potential of AI to improve healthcare outcomes and their eagerness to learn more about the practical applications of AI in the medical field.

A panel discussion moderated by Prof. Dr. Sc. Leo Mršić (Algebra University) followed, bringing together a diverse group of experts from various fields. Esteemed panelists, including Prof. Dr. Sc. Dragan Primorac (Special Hospital Sv. Katarina), Davor Aničić (Velebit AI), Prof. Dr. Sc. Ozren Polašek (Croatian Science Foundation), Dr. Sc. Mateo Sokač (Algebra University), Dr. Sc. Ivo Dumić-Čule (Clinical Department for Diagnostic and Interventional Radiology KB Dubrava), and Dr. Sc. Goran Kuzmec (Sabol Polyclinic for Children’s Diseases), explored the implications of AI on healthcare delivery and patient outcomes. The panel engaged in a lively discussion, exploring the ethical considerations, potential challenges, and future opportunities of AI in healthcare.
