“AI and medicine – teaching each other” is a key research activity in the AI2MED project and serves as the foundation for future project activities. While AI continues to revolutionize many industries, its application in healthcare holds enormous potential to improve patient outcomes, optimize medical processes and advance healthcare systems worldwide. The aim of “the research is to explore the current and potential uses of AI in healthcare, gather insights from experts and identify areas where AI can have the greatest impact.
Key objectives
- Understanding AI adoption in healthcare
These project activities aim to find out how AI technologies are currently being used in healthcare institutions. By interviewing experts from different fields, we seek to gain a comprehensive overview of existing AI systems, their benefits and the challenges of implementing them. Our research sheds light on both the current landscape and future opportunities, highlighting areas where AI can support healthcare professionals, improve patient care and streamline operations. - Identifying skills gaps
An important aspect of these project activities is identifying the knowledge gaps that exist in the healthcare sector in relation to AI. Through surveys and interviews, we have found that while many healthcare professionals express an interest in AI, only a small percentage have received formal training in this area. The research conducted suggests that future training programs should focus on developing critical skills such as data science, complex data analysis and digital literacy, which are essential for healthcare professionals working with AI systems. - Collaboration with healthcare institutions
The research conducted highlights the importance of collaboration between healthcare institutions, AI developers and research centers. Through partnerships, we aim to promote the adoption of AI in clinical settings and ensure that healthcare providers are equipped with the knowledge and tools they need to effectively integrate these technologies into their day-to-day work.
Current progress
To date, the project partners have made significant progress in collecting and analyzing data on the use of AI in healthcare. To date, we have interviewed 24 experts, including physicians, data scientists and healthcare administrators, to understand the current state of AI integration. These experts have provided valuable insights into how AI can reduce wait times, improve diagnostic accuracy and optimize hospital workflows.
A look into the future
The results of the research will play a pivotal role in shaping the next phases of the project. By identifying the key areas where AI can make a tangible difference, we will be better able to support healthcare providers in adopting these innovations. The project partners will continue to monitor developments in AI applications to ensure that our project remains at the forefront of technological advances in healthcare.
