Beyond the Black Box: Building Trustworthy AI in Healthcare

As Artificial Intelligence becomes increasingly integrated into healthcare, one critical question continues to grow in importance:
Can we truly trust AI if we do not understand how it makes decisions?

On 28 May 2026, AI2MED invites educators, researchers, healthcare professionals and technology enthusiasts to join the webinar “Beyond the Black Box: Building Trustworthy AI”, led by Jeanette Garcia Kola, Senior Researcher at the Research & Innovation Hub of Griffith College.

The session will explore one of the most important challenges in modern AI: the so-called “black box problem” — situations where AI systems generate recommendations or decisions without clearly explaining the reasoning behind them. In healthcare, where decisions can directly affect patient safety and treatment outcomes, transparency and trust are not optional — they are essential.

During the webinar, participants will discover:

  • what Explainable AI (XAI) really means,
  • why human oversight remains crucial in AI-assisted decision-making,
  • how “human-in-the-loop” approaches can improve reliability and accountability,
  • and why ethics and policy must evolve alongside technology.

As AI systems become more powerful, the future of healthcare will increasingly depend not only on innovation, but also on our ability to develop AI that is understandable, transparent and responsibly implemented.

This webinar is part of AI2MED’s broader mission to support AI literacy and foster meaningful dialogue between healthcare, education and technology communities.
