The American Chamber of Commerce in Montenegro organized the Second International Conference on Digital Transformation in Healthcare, entitled “Healthcare as a Long-Term Investment for Socioeconomic Growth“ which took in Podgorica.
This high-level event brought together representatives of state institutions, healthcare professionals, the business community, and international experts with the aim of jointly examining the interconnection between health, innovation, and social development.
Speakers from Montenegro, the European Union, and beyond – including renowned experts from Sweden, Slovenia, Estonia, Singapore, and Denmark – shared best practices and experiences in shaping modern, resilient healthcare systems. Their presentations were meant to provide guidance on how digital technologies and innovative models can improve healthcare organization, increase access to therapies, and ensure the long-term sustainability of health systems.
Among other things, the conference address:
- the importance of long-term investments in the healthcare sector and their impact on economic growth,
- access to modern therapies,
- the role of integrated models of care and prevention in the context of aging population and the rise of chronic diseases,
- the significance of digital transformation and health data in shaping effective and sustainable policies.
The event also featured the presentation of a new study conducted by IQVIA, a global leader in health data and analytics. According to the study, limited access to modern therapies remains a challenge for Montenegro’s healthcare system, pointing to the need for systemic improvements in public financing and reimbursement policies. The current model does not ensure adequate patient access to innovative treatments.
Nevertheless, positive economic trends and projected growth create a real opportunity to strategically strengthen the healthcare sector. Aligning with modern European practices, alongside increased public investment and more efficient resource allocation, represents a step toward a sustainable system and better health outcomes for all citizens, the study concluded.
The closing part of the conference was dedicated to a panel discussion with representatives of relevant healthcare institutions.
Through its dynamic and comprehensive format, the conference served as a unique platform for knowledge exchange and dialogue between the public and private sectors. Such collaboration is key to finding solutions to the challenges of modern healthcare and to developing strategies that will contribute to the long-term progress of society.
