What happens when one European project builds the skills needed to use AI in healthcare, while another takes the next step towards testing, validating and bringing innovative solutions closer to real healthcare environments?
This is where AI2MED and KIDDIN meet.
On 21–23 September 2026, partners of the new KIDDIN project gathered in Córdoba, Spain, for their first face-to-face meeting. The agenda immediately revealed several strong connections with the work already being carried out through AI2MED.
AI2MED has focused on a fundamental challenge: preparing people for the growing role of Artificial Intelligence in medicine. Through research, educational resources, MOOCs, practical use cases, stakeholder engagement and Incubation Labs, the project connects healthcare professionals, educators, data specialists and technology experts.
KIDDIN approaches the same transformation from another angle. Its work will include eight pilots, a federated IT platform and transversal AI, demonstration and validation activities, market validation and commercialisation, as well as European ecosystem building.
Together, these perspectives tell a much bigger story.
From understanding AI to putting innovation to work
AI2MED has repeatedly shown that successful healthcare AI requires much more than a good algorithm. Professionals need the right skills, healthcare and technology experts need a common language, and new solutions need to be understood, questioned and tested in the environments where they may eventually be used.
KIDDIN takes this logic further by creating a framework in which innovative solutions can move through piloting, technological integration, validation and pathways towards market uptake.
This connection is particularly visible in the involvement of Algebra Bernays University, which contributes to both projects. In KIDDIN, Algebra is involved in the work on the Federated IT Platform & Transversal AI, bringing experience from a project in which the relationship between AI, healthcare, education and responsible implementation has already been explored extensively.
Different projects, a shared direction
AI2MED and KIDDIN have different objectives and activities, but they respond to the same broader transformation: AI is becoming part of healthcare, and Europe needs not only better technologies, but also the skills, infrastructure, validation mechanisms and ecosystems that allow those technologies to be used responsibly and effectively.
AI2MED asks: Are people ready to work with AI in healthcare?
KIDDIN adds another question: How do we help promising innovations move from ideas and pilots towards real-world impact?
Connecting these perspectives is exactly what European collaboration can do best — allowing knowledge from one project to become a foundation for the next stage of innovation.
